Oscar performing at Underdog Electronic Music School
Hosted By

Oscar

Underdog Electronic Music School
About The Host

Oscar is the founder of Underdog Electronic Music School. Through his teaching, online courses and widely followed YouTube channel, he has helped a whole generation of electronic musicians approach music technology with both curiosity and critical thinking.

His work moves fluidly between modular synthesis, live performance workflows, sound design and the messy realities of building a personal studio practice — always rooted in musical intention rather than gear-chasing.

With knowledge spanning analog design, computers in performance and spatialised sound, Oscar felt like the natural choice to guide these four conversations at WAMM. Expect grounded discussions, sharp questions and a host who actually listens — and then asks the question you wanted answered.

05 · Live Acts

Live
Performances.

Throughout the day, five artists take the floor in alternation with the talks and workshops — modular synthesis, processed voice, machine funk and electronic improvisation. Brief, immersive sets from musicians who build, bend and rewire their own instruments.

Sasha Sykes
Sasha Sykes
IMPROVISED, JAZZ INFUSED, MODULAR PERFORMANCE

With a background in jazz, trained in jazz vocals at the Lemmens Institute conservatory, Sasha Sykes has always had an affinity for improvisation and experimentation. Her discovery of modular synthesis revealed to her a new approach to improvisation, one that felt instinctive yet unfamiliar. Having recently started her first solo project, she continues to focus on sound and its nuances, exploring a continuously expanding field of possibilities through modular synthesis, growing and evolving alongside her project.

Music for Hiccups
Music for Hiccups
Synth and voices improvisation

Music for Hiccups is a duo composed of Brussels-based musicians Chiara Bacci and Nicola Lancerotti. The improvised music they create centers around a continuous dialogue between modified voice and modular synthesizers. In their performances, the roles they play are intentionally left undefined: sometimes the voice can become an abstract disturbing sound, while modular synths can create melodic textures — often they are intertwined in a manner that blurs the lines between them.

/03
Léonard Steyaert
Léonard Steyaert
SYNTHS, GUITAR & VOICES!

Complex rhythms, organic synthesizers, warm guitars and a celestial voice: these are the ingredients of Léonard Steyaert’s music that collide into an enchanting electronic whirlpool. As a classically trained musician and modular synthesizer developer, Steyaert pours his sound experiments into intimate songs. Sometimes threatening, sometimes explosive, yet ever-alluring. Léonard Steyaert currently works as a programmer/developer for Shakmat Modular and is a recording and performing musician.

Johnny Superglu
Johnny Superglu
House, Acid and Machine Funk DJ set

Johnny Superglu is the alias of Belgian producer Quentin Hanon. Originally guitarist in avant-garde duo Scratch Pet Land, he traded strings for synths, drum machines and MPCs, shaping a raw hybrid of house, acid and playful textures. Known for unpredictable, high-energy live sets in perpetual motion — shifting between bass-heavy grooves, acid lines and melodic fragments — he blurs the lines between club music, experimentation and raw machine funk.

06 · Learn The Craft

Educational
Workshops.

A beginner-friendly introduction to sound synthesis with a focus on subtractive synthesis. Modular or not, the principles are the same: start with a simple source, then shape, modulate and sculpt it into something expressive. We'll explore the essential building blocks, oscillators, filters, VCAs, LFOs and envelopes, starting from saw, square, sine and noise to build classic analog sounds: deep basslines, sharp leads, percussive hits, drones and evolving textures.

Jean Rochet
Jean Rochet
Mudd Corp

Belgian electronic musician, sound engineer and the mind behind Mudd Corp — a project exploring raw, textured forms of live electronic performance. His work moves between hypnotic rhythms, noise-infused atmospheres and tactile sonic exploration.

VCV Rack is a free modular software inspired by the Eurorack world — a gateway to hardware if you're starting out, or a sketchpad for your ideas if you're already deep down the road. On a modular synth, you can patch sounds never heard before, but you can also craft melodies beyond the reach of any other tool. We'll focus on everything your piano roll or Octatrack can't do: sequencers modulating their own tempo, sequences on different time scales, nested melodies, and more. Newcomers and seasoned hardware synthesists welcome — we'll patch the meta-sequencer of our dreams together.

Pyer

Circuit bending is exciting: you intrude in a device, often without knowing or understanding the circuit. Suddenly — an amazing glitch sound! And next? Silence, or white smoke… In this workshop we'll go through the basics and different techniques of modding and circuit bending. You'll learn how to drastically reduce the risk of damaging circuits and to turn old devices into new noise machines. Blended with live demos of noise circuits, endless delays and lo-fi sounds, Jan will inspire you to start or continue your personal journey.
